Here’s a request for suggestions (I think technically that’s called a “bleg”): I’m teaching ancient drama next term and looking for a good film that would enable us to talk about tragedy in our culture. So not a film adaptation of a classical tragedy, but a modern tragedy, if there is such a thing. I loved the Manon and Manon of the Spring films, and that’s the sort of thing I’m looking for, but was hoping for a single film. Some years ago someone recommended Mystic River, which I’ve never seen. Is that a good one? Are there others anyone has used for this purpose, or that you think could be used for this purpose?
