The Roman Theatre in Orange (photo by Rob Hardy)

Clara is spending the day at the annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Midwest and South (CAMWS) in Minneapolis, which gives me the opportunity to sneak behind her back and tell you about her contribution to an exciting project spearheaded by Professor Thomas Hines, of the Whitman College Theater Department. The project is the Ancient Theatre Archive: A Virtual Reality Tour of Greek and Roman Theatre Architecture. The website includes photos, panorama movies, maps, specifications, and commentary on Greek and Roman theaters in Europe, Turkey, north Africa, and the Middle East. Clara’s contribution is the commentary on the magnificent Roman theater in Orange (Roman Arausio), in southern France, which we visited in March 2003. Click “Commentary” to read Clara’s text.
